The 'Burbs

As my husband and I seriously consider a move to a house with a little more space and a pool,  I'm reminded of what the decorative compromises are when choosing to live in the suburbs.  We choose to stay in our current neighborhood because this location and these neighbors are a great support to our family.  But, how I wish the builders of these master planned communities would have given us a little more architectural detail rather than big boxes with soaring ceilings. 

One easy fix is adding beadboard and beams:
