Country Living ~ Behind the Scenes

Happy Back to School Day!  We've had the best summer full of barefoot days, sleeping late and just slowing down and being together. It's such a blessing for me to work less and be with my kids during the summer. Now back to work!

Earlier this year, I had the privilege of assisting Country Living Contributing Editor and Stylist, Heather Bullard on a shoot just south of Dallas that features the beautiful remodel of Susie Clark's ranch house.  The feature is in the September issue of Country Living that's available now.

I love Susie's style. She's got a "Fresh Country" look that makes for easy, stylish living and it suits the house and her life so well. I think that's key to good design. This was my first experience working with a team from a major publication. It was such an inspiration to see their dedication to producing a beautiful story. In addition to all the hard work and long hours, it's really fun and I can't wait to do it again.

Here are a few behind the scenes pictures taken with my iphone:

Every photo shoot must have pretty flowers. These were from a local florist.

A few props were brought in, though not too much as Susie has great style. We picked up a couple of items from The Greenery in Waxahachie, Texas. Great garden store with lots of vintage signs.

Still kicking myself for not picking up one of these light blue enamel pots.

While I was out picking up a yummy Texas style fajita spread for the crew and homeowner, the breakfast nook was styled and photographed. So pretty!

This is what you don't see.  A little of the equipment that's used to get those beauty shots.

I have a steamer and I'm not afraid to use it!  Ever seen anyone so happy to steam bedding? I didn't think so.

This is Stella, one of Susie's rescue horses. She's a sweetie and always ready for a handful of grass.

A little more horsing around.  Me modeling one of Susie's western hats. Don't Mess with Texas.

One of the best parts of the job is meeting extraordinary people. Susie has a successful career, lives in her dream house and has a big heart for animal rescue. She calls her place The Lucky Dog Ranch.
Having one's home full of people from a major publication, taking pictures, moving things around can be super stressful, but Susie was cool as a cucumber. One afternoon, I needed to ask her a question and couldn't find her right away, so I knocked on her bedroom door only to peek in and see this.... lucky dogs indeed!
